Microsoft acquires LinkedIn! Decoding the ambitions behind the move…

Page Image
Microsoft has confirmed its definitive agreement to acquire the world’s most valued professional network, LinkedIn. The talks were finalized on Monday (13th June 2016) and the firm agreed to settle for $26.2 billion all-cash transactions. Being the costliest acquisition by Microsoft, this deal had also aroused the experts and entrepreneurs around the world with several questions. There is enough significance that this deal could construe drastic impact on the tech market. While the predictions about the future of these firms keep flooding the business world around every nook and corner, this blog crisply checks out the intentions and possible outcomes of this deal,

To dominate the Cloud Realm!

Microsoft once dominated the technology market with its remarkable software products. But those days were through when various other vendors planted their dominance. In spite of being a pioneer in the software market, Microsoft still remains in fourth in CRM share market. Cloud and networking platforms played a vital role in defeating the dominance of Microsoft. After many years, Microsoft had made its ambitious attempt to dominate the software market. Yes, by acquiring LinkedIn, now it can have a stronghold on the opportunities to connect with the entrepreneurs around the world. It can now push its cloud computing platform to enterprises around the world. In fact, there are bright chances where the open-source Azure for clients could be integrated with the LinkedIn professional network.
Though the acquisition of Yammer in 2012 and Skype in 2011 did not help Microsoft to grow its social network, now it could prove useful. It also owns powerful business tools like Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint and Dynamics. These suites can now be effectively integrated to create the most powerful online business suite inside a familiar professional network, LinkedIn. And the primary purpose of CRMs being the relationship management, there could be no better platform than the huge social network like LinkedIn.

Better place to test its AI robots!

The world started hoping that the AI (Artificial Intelligence) is certain to be future. Leading Tech giants like Google are already preparing their prototypes to run their future games. Microsoft too was keen on marking its presence in AI technology. Recently, it introduced its AI chat robot to Twitter in the name of ‘Tay’. But soon it was deleted when this teen chat girl turned into Hitler-loving and sex-promoting chat robot. The main reason for this was the unhealthy interactions it had with the Twitter users.
Unlike any other social network, LinkedIn has genuine and legitimate users bonded with their professional network. So, incorporating the AI robots in LinkedIn and restricting any abuse would definitely help to reach success in incorporating Artificial Intelligence.

What Microsoft actually says about this deal?

Though both firms already shine successfully in the market, Microsoft claims that this move is intended to further accelerate the growth and progress of both. The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella stated that,
“The LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business centered on connecting the world’s professionals. Together we can accelerate the growth of LinkedIn, as well as Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics as we seek to empower every person and organization on the planet.” He also added that “It’s really the coming together of the professional cloud and the professional network “

How LinkedIn sees this deal?

LinkedIn is arguably a strong and one of the rapidly growing businesses and it had incorporated several remarkable innovations that helped it to achieve tremendous growth. In addition to being crowned as the leading professional networking platform, LinkedIn also had become a strong job portal with more than 7 million job listings on its site. The CEO of LinkedIn, Jeff Weiner said,
“Just as we have changed the way the world connects to opportunity, this relationship with Microsoft, and the combination of their cloud and LinkedIn’s network, now gives us a chance to also change the way the world works. For the last 13 years, we’ve been uniquely positioned to connect professionals to make them more productive and successful, and I’m looking forward to leading our team through the next chapter of our story.”
And the co-founder and executive chairman of LinkedIn said,
“Today is a re-founding moment for LinkedIn. I see an incredible opportunity for our members and customers and look forward to supporting this new and combined business. I fully support this transaction and the Board’s decision to pursue it, and will vote my shares in accordance with their recommendation on it.”

What Tech Experts say?

Mitch Kapor (founder of Lotus Development Corp.) – “Sadly, history has shown [synergies] are very difficult to realize when two big companies combine, especially to the extent LinkedIn is remaining an independent fiefdom within the Microsoft empire.”
Steve Phillips (Chief information officer of Avnet Inc.) – Tech companies and their customers are looking for ways to get even more out of social media.”
Michael Wade (Professor of innovation and strategy at Switzerland) – “The LinkedIn hasn’t lived up to its potential for a while. And, it hasn’t evolved quickly enough beyond its roots as a recruiting tool and job-search site. Most of its users aren’t looking for a job, and LinkedIn has so far done a poor job of getting them to come back to the site regularly to connect with and expand their professional networks. Only about one-quarter of LinkedIn’s 400 million “cumulative” users return to the site every month.”
Considering costliness of the deal and the history of failures incurred by previous acquisitions, there must be a vital and progressive plan for Microsoft to dare to take such a huge move. If rightly used to its maximum potential, Microsoft could make a remarkable change in the way cloud and professional networks work!

Life of an Indian in USA made easier

An Indian in the United States of America often finds it difficult to get used to the life there. For instance, you can seldom find a "tapri" (local tea stall), an Indian beauty parlor and many such necessities that are common to spot in the native land. To assist you with staying in touch with India, here are a few tips that you could use:

1. Connect with fellow Indians: Join other Indian members in your locality for a dinner or simply visit a religious place of worship and get chatting with other Indians with whom you could discuss your issues and also figure out solutions to some of your problems.

2. Join Forums: It is essential for you to join relevant forums to stay updated in the foreign land. You may join an NRI group or Indian Singers group or even Indian Mothers or Fathers group. These forums may be available as a site on the internet or even as a Group on Facebook. Make sure you join these groups and regularly check for updates that may serve as help to you.

3. Turn to Sulekha for all your local needs: You may want to locate an Indian beauty parlor near your house or even look for a good Indian cook to assist you in your kitchen. For all such necessities, you could browse Sulekha US and figure out respective answers. They also have a mobile application that lets you access every service at your finger tips.

4. Never miss a desi party: Be it a grand Diwali bash or a Holi gathering, ensure that you mark your attendance in each of these events and be a star at these parties.

Best Summer Destinations in USA!

Summer is here and we are listing down the places to visit in USA with your family to make this season even better. So, here you go.

1. Portland, Oregon:
It is indeed a pleasure to taste summer in this northwestern city flocked with top-ranked farmers’ markets bursting with berries, fresh-caught salmon at interesting bistros, and plenty of cool summer drinks. The sumptuous cuisine will drive you to get active, whether you’re bicycling around Portland or hiking near the waterfalls outside town.

2. Seattle:
The infamous drizzly city—which came in last place for winter visits—actually stays pretty dry and sunny throughout the summer. It’s a great time to get outdoors, whether buzzing around in seaplanes or hanging out in the great city parks. You can also get a good look at massive Mount Rainier, which, for the rest of the year, often hides behind clouds.

3. Portland, ME:
What, did someone say lobster? These big, seasonal crustaceans are one of the biggest summer lures of this New England city. Between meals you can always paddle off in a kayak or walk the cobblestoned streets of the Old Port. It’s also a perfect destination if you’re the early-to-bed type.

4. San Diego:
You would totally love the year-round beach weather and good-looking locals here—even if June can be cool and gray. Summer also brings the kooky ComicCon convention and events at the Del Mar racetrack, an old-Hollywood star magnet. And the city’s zoo, SeaWorld, and Legoland are a natural draw for families on summer vacation.

5. Providence:
Summer nights glow in the Rhode Island capital, thanks to Waterfire, a series of small bonfires that light up the rivers downtown.

6. Denver:
Tourists generously applaud the Mile High City for its great outdoors and active locals—and summer makes for fabulous hiking and mountain biking. Denver’s also a magnet for summer festival fans: come for the Chalk Art Festival, the Underground Music Showcase, and the classic, western-themed Buffalo Bill Days.

7. Anchorage:
By travel industry standards, summer is the one-and-only season in Alaska, whether you’ve come for a classic cruise, a trek across glaciers, or caribou-spotting in Denali National Park. Some tourists found trips here pricey (to cut costs, come in early June or late August), but loved the great photo-op views.

8. Minneapolis/St. Paul:
The Twin Cities fell into last place for its overall weather, but still made it to summer’s Top 10. Indeed, after a long winter, people in Minnesota are practically busting at the seams to get outside. Things get especially festive at the acclaimed State Fair in August and the celebratory Target

9. Chicago:
Who cares if there’s no ocean in Chicago? People still find beachy fun on the lakeshores, soaking up rays and spiking volleyballs. The Windy City also landed in the top 5 for being pedestrian-friendly—a nice way to take in the great skyline views.

10. Honolulu:
Though many people flock here in winter, summer is actually the dry season in the Hawaiian capital. That means more sunny weather and more accessible waves for surfing. There are arguably more deals during summer too. Yet another reason it’s a fine time to unplug in Honolulu—rated the No. 1 city for relaxing.

Do's and Don'ts of Website Design

Everyone owns a site or a blog these days. It's the next thing that one owns after a smartphone. So when there is so much competition out there in the digital world, how will you survive and rise up to be one of those really popular sites that people keep coming back to? There are some very simple things that one ought to follow, in order to create an elegant yet stylish website that is not just user-friendly, but also speaks volumes about your brand or yourself (in case of a personal blog). I have compiled a humble comparison between some good and bad elements of website design that you may incorporate in your layout.

1. It's either high-res or useless!
Your site is the link between you and your customer. It is your brand's identity. Make sure that the images that you use on your site are high resolution ones that are taken from legitimate sources. You could use Pexels for this purpose.

2. Minimalistic is the new fantastic!
Simple and elegant designs are many day more appealing than a jarring website filled with unnecessary content and images.

3. Are you socially visible?
If your social media buttons aren't positioned strategically, you are bound to lose your customers who could be potential influencers for your brand. Place your social media icons in such a way that they are in the first fold of your homepage and pretty prominent for users to click and follow your profiles.

4. Less is always more!
It is a myth that your site must be loaded with content. All you need to ensure is that your content is of good quality and relevant. Keep minimum text on all your pages, so that viewers landing on your site are not stressed out to read huge volumes of random words.

5. KISS - Keep It Simple Silly!
Always adhere to this golden rule while designing your homepage. If your homepage is simple and easy to follow, you have higher probability of visitors navigating deeper into other pages on your site.

6. Clear Call-to-Action is the key to Increased Conversion!
CTA buttons are an integral part of your revenue system. Make sure that there is high clarity in the suggestions, positions and meanings of each of these buttons used on your site.

7. Move the coins smartly
Navigate your users very wisely when they land on your website. Ask them the correct questions that makes them view the most relevant and intended pages on your site.

Hope these tips help you in designing a really kick-ass website for yourself! In case you are stuck and need further help regarding this, click here to get in touch with some really great website designers.
